How to Prevent and Get Rid of Cannabis Smell

Have you ever been walking down the street only to catch a whiff of cannabis aroma? The scent of some types of cannabis products can be so strong for some people that sometimes hiding it can seem nearly impossible. Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to keep the scent down during your next session.

Smell Prevention

Getting rid of the aroma that comes with cannabis smoke is not impossible, but prevention is still the best strategy. By keeping the smell down in the first place, having your home smelling fresh after your next session will be less of a headache. Here are a few tips to help you better manage the smell of cannabis and enjoy cannabis more discreetly.

Smoke Outside

The best way to minimize the smell of cannabis is to smoke it outside where legally possible. When exhaled into the open air, cannabis smoke can quickly dissipate as it is carried away, especially if it is windy outside. But smoking inside will make that smell get trapped inside by limited or no airflow. If you’re worried about cannabis smell, take it outside if you’re legally able and have a safe, private backyard.

Vape, Don’t Smoke

One of the best ways to keep the smell down is to avoid cannabis smoke altogether. Vaping your cannabis instead of smoking it is the best way to do this. Vapor simply lacks that signature smoke smell that lingers in the air and gets into clothes. It’s also lighter than smoke and tends to dissipate into the air more quickly. Whether you’re vaping concentrates or flower, you can expect less aroma when dealing with vapor.

Use A Sploof

A sploof is a tube or a bottle with scented sheets inside of it. As the smoke passes through it, the sploof changes the smell so that the smoke coming out the other side smells fresh, and not like cannabis. It may sound funny, but it works!

You can buy a professionally made sploof, or you can just make your own at home. The easiest way to make a sploof is to simply stuff some laundry sheets into an empty toilet paper or paper towel tube and blow your smoke through it.

Store Your Cannabis Properly

Most people associate the smell of cannabis with cannabis smoke, but even opening up a container of your favorite flower can sometimes be enough to fill up the room with that cannabis smell. That’s why it’s important to store your cannabis properly whenever you aren’t handling it.

If you’re storing a strong-smelling cannabis flower, then you should make sure to keep it in a smell-proof container. A sealed mason jar or plastic container are both good options for storage. Keeping it in a cool, dry, and dark place can also help to prevent your cannabis from degrading and its THC content from breaking down as it ages.

Covering Up Cannabis Smell

If you think your room or house smells of cannabis, there are certain things you can do in order to clear the air.

The first thing to do is to open any windows and turn on any fans. Getting some good airflow in the room will help to push the smell outside. Just remember to place a towel or shirt under the door in order to prevent the smell from leaking out into the rest of the house.

The second thing you can do is to spray an odor neutralizer in the air. Look for a spray that doesn’t just cover bad smells, but that can actually capture and neutralize them. Just a few blasts of odor neutralizer can have a room smelling fresh again in 15 minutes.

Lastly, you can also light up some incense or a scented candle. However, you should probably open a window at the same time. Lighting up incense in an unventilated room may just result in another lingering odor.
